Events in pictures - 2009/2010

Sunil's year has got off to a great start with a number of fabulous get togethers with all our West London Rotary and Rotaract colleagues. We have also had some inspirational speakers ranging from ambassadorial scholars  such as  Lauren Williamson to Mark Koska from Safepoint,  giving us the benefit of their experience.

A few highlights are included below.  For the entire album, please click here.

We will be updating this page with more of our successes as the year progresses.

Five Clubs social and fundraising dinner  - March 2010

Each year, we have a social get together with members of the other clubs based in the Borough of Ealing. As it was our turn to organise the event this year, we decided to blend an evening of fellowship with another opportunity to raise some funds for the global Rotary initiative to eradicate Polio around the world. This year was extra special because we also welcomed the opportunity to include the newly formed Rotary Club of Southall into this event and all future events.

The meal at Brentham Club was excellent as always, and with some fabulous speakers in the form of the Mayor of Ealing and past winner of Youth Speaks, Justina, a great evening was had by all. Thanks to the generosity of all present and matched funds from Nick Smith representing Barclays, we added another £600 to our charity total.

We'll be posting some pictures shortly ....

'Thanks for Life' week  - Feb 2010

The last week in February was dedicated to raising awareness and funds for 'End Polio Now'. Rotary's worldwide initiative. We  chose to take part in a number of suggested initiatives, including a collection at Tesco in Alperton and a Purple Pinkie day at  a number of local schools such as Gifford and Montpelier. Thanks to all the support from the school children and the wider local community, we raised over £1000 as part of this focussed initiative.

'Youth Speaks' - February 2010

 Details coming soon...

Rotary Eastbourne Conference - October 2009

A big representation from Ealing Rotary at the District Conference in October. We also invited some of our Rotaract colleagues and our Ambassadorial scholars and of course our partners. A great time was had by all.

Guest Speaker -  Mark Koska OBE of Safepoint - October  2009

Mark battled through the rush hour all the way from Surrey to tell us all us all about Safepoint's crusade to end reuse of syringes across the world.  It was illuminating to understand this subject which is causing untold suffering around the world, yet has nowhere near  the high profile it warrants.  Mark is empassioned about this subject and with Safepoint, has made massive inroads into raising awareness and changing legislation around the world.

Mayor of Ealing, Barbara Yerolemou is made an Honorary member - September 2009

The Mayor of Ealing found time in her busy schedule to join us for dinner at Lisa's Restaurant.  It was quite a special evening with the whole restaurant reserved for the Rotary party to welcome the Mayor as an honorary member of our club. A great meal and fantastic speeches were rounded off by a fanfare courtesy of Alan  and John.

Sunil takes over as President of Ealing Rotary from Sarah -  July  2009

The Weir in Brentford was the chosen venue to pass the baton from Sarah to Sunil to take charge of all the club's activities for the year 2009 - 2010. Joined by all full time club members and club  'friends', we had a fabulous meal and a great celebration of the successes of the past year. Even Lisa and Milan managed to get a night off from the restaurant !

We look forward to achieving the same fantastic results as last year plus more in the coming year under Sunil's stewardship.
